Frequently Asked Questions

Book & Beers is a social platform for book clubs. Members can join clubs, vote on which book to read next, track reading progress together, and log the beers they enjoy along the way.

You can browse the public clubs list and individual club pages without an account. To join a club, vote on books, log beers, or track your reading progress you'll need to register — it's free.

Click "Register" in the top navigation. You'll need to choose a username and provide an email address and password. Once registered you're ready to join or create a club.

You can join a club two ways: browse the Clubs page and click "Join" on any public club, or use an invite link shared by a club member. Invite links take you straight to a join page for that specific club.

Head to My Clubs and click "Create a Club". You can give your club a name, description, cover image, meeting location, and a recurring meetup schedule (weekly, fortnightly, or monthly).

Yes — there's no limit on how many clubs you can join. All your clubs are listed on the My Clubs page.

Each club has a unique invite link. As a club owner you can find it in the club settings. You can share the link directly or use the "Send Invite" option to email it to someone. If the link is ever shared too widely you can regenerate it.

Owners can edit club settings, manage members (including making others a co-owner), set or change the current book, close votes early, and manage the club's invite link. Regular members can nominate and vote on books and update their reading progress.

Any member can nominate a book for the club to read next. Once nominations are open, every member gets one vote. When voting closes the book with the most votes becomes the current read. Club owners can close the poll early or reset it if needed.

On your club's page, use the nomination form to search for a book by title. Results come from the Open Library catalogue so most published books are available.

Club owners can open a vote from the club page once at least one book has been nominated. Members then cast their vote and the poll stays open until the owner closes it — either manually or once everyone has voted. The winning book automatically becomes the club's current read. Owners can also reset the poll to clear all votes and start fresh, or delete it entirely to remove all nominations.

Each member can update their current page number on the club page. Everyone's progress is shown together so the whole club can see how far along each person is.

Finished books move to the club's reading history. Members can leave a star rating and the history is visible to everyone on the club page.

The Beer Board is a community-wide log where members can record beers they've enjoyed. You can add the beer's name, brewery, ABV, a star rating, tasting notes, and even a photo.

The Beer Board is publicly visible to anyone, even without an account. Logging beers requires a free account.

Yes — you can edit or delete any beer entry you've added. You'll find the edit and delete options on your own entries.

Any logged-in member can like a beer to show appreciation. Likes feed into the Discover page where the community's top-rated and most-liked beers are ranked.

Discover shows community-wide stats: which books are being read across the most clubs this month, and which beers have the most likes. It's a good way to see what's popular right now.

Go to your Account page (accessible from the navigation menu when logged in). You can update your email address, username, and password independently from that page.

Open the club page and scroll to the members section. You'll find a "Leave club" option there. If you're the only owner you'll need to promote another member to owner first.
